Hey peeps so in today's session we're going to talk about how to engage your shoulders for up right pole moves and spins. 

You will hear often pull your shoulders down and back, but what does that mean - how do you do it?

Now I am pretty much a non-techy simple as they come kinda person, so that is exactly how I am going to try and explain shoulder engagement.

There are many resources about shoulder engagement which go into great techy detail if you want to learn more.

This video is my simplest explanation to help you get started and hopefully help you understand how to engage your shoulders for pole as a beginner. 

• Stand tall next to the pole - raise up on balls of feet
• Reach inside hand up high leading with palm - shoulder raises to ear
• Engage core - avoid flaring the chest
• Pull shoulders down away from ear as far as you can
• Return to an almost hang position - shoulder back up to ear so you know your full range of movement.
• Pull down again, but this time only half way
• From this position, turn your elbow bone to face forwards slightly - this will squeeze your shoulders back 

You're now in a shoulders down and back engagement position. Training in this position will help you develop your muscles greatly. So whenever you hear that term you know what position to get into.  It will become more natural the more times you practice. So, although it will feel weird initially, like anything, with enough practice it will become easier.
